東方 Piano ~ ラストオカルティズム ～ 現し世の秘術師 [Assaultdoor]

And so it begins. As you probably know, I had one hell of a hard time choosing music for this event, not only because of the sheer overwhelming amount of choices (then again, I'm not yet finished with picking, so it's not exactly valid but whatever), but also because of the fact that there wasn't as much variety as I had hoped to. Sure, there's a pretty generous amount of Piano and Orchestral this time around, along with a few golden treasures that will of course be uploaded here, but in overall I found myself just wishing for other genres, such as Instrumental or even Folk, which seems to be lacking in the Touhou section. That lack of other genres really pushed me away from uploading much C89 content, since I felt that it wouldn't be diverse enough.
At least, that's how I felt at first. But then I made my choice, and I'm going to upload as many tracks that caught my interest, be it repetitive or not. In those news... Expect a lot of piano goodness (looking at you youngster, you know who you are).
So I was pretty hyped when I saw that our beloved piano gods Assaultdoor published a new album for this Comiket. Their latest album wasn't exactly amazing, and that little hole just asked to get its fill, you see. And well, let me tell you; this new album blew out about any other albums of theirs right out of the water. It was absolutely spectacular in any sense of the word and term. Not all the tracks were amazing, and some of them were downright mediocre (that Green Eyed Jealousy for example), and that's kind of a shame. However, four tracks in particular made this album SO much better. Boys and Girls of Science Era, for one, which was pretty neat, albeit not exactly breathtaking. The final track, which was Lost Emotion, and felt very appropriate to end the album as a whole with its somewhat "ending" vibe to it. There was also Reincarnation, which made me squeal so hard that I have no idea why I didn't decide to upload this one. And finally... This track here, which I decided to pick to represent this album on my channel.
Now... I actually am not the biggest fan of the original theme, although I find it to be one of ZUN's most epic pieces in a while, since it represents pretty accurately a threat that might destroy the whole of Gensokyo if she manages to proceed with her plans. Funny thing about this is how the "villain" actually didn't have any bad will of her own; to her, it was simply a matter of opening a gate to another world to coexist with fantastic beings from a different world than hers. With that in mind, I can't help but notice a somewhat sad tone in the track, which really sold me. Maybe that she feels a bit lonely? Or perhaps that deep inside she already knew that it wouldn't work? There's sheer determination in this theme, and I'm absolutely sold. It grew on me as fast as a rocket, really.
Regarding this arrangement, it's all the points that I mentioned above, but just enhanced immensely. Piano certainly has a way to make you feel deeper emotions because of its sharp keys, and I feel like this is what makes this arrangement so great. That, and Mitty is an absolute genius of momentum. That finale was breathtaking.
I put a lot of effort in choosing the right pictures, and I hope that it managed to show you the way that I see the battle as a whole.
